Donald Trump supporters leaving a rally in San Jose were punched by protesters who threw eggs, smashed car windows and set fire to the tycoon’s campaign hats.
Police wearing riot gear stood their ground at first, but after 90 minutes moved in on the crowd to break it up.
At least four people were arrested on Thursday night. One officer was also assaulted, according to police Sergeant Enrique Garcia.
Video showed clashes in the street outside the San Jose Convention Center as a crowd of more than 300 protesters waved Mexican flags, chanted anti-Trump slogans and burned the hats and at least one US flag.
