Trump changes tune on Libya

After bashing Democratic rival Hillary Clinton over the 2011 invasion of Libya, it turns out that Donald Trump also supported the removal of the late dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

“I was for something, but I wasn’t for what we have right now,” Trump said on CBS’ Face The Nation.

The CBS program showed a video blog from 2011 in which Trump said of Libya and Gadhafi: “Now we should go in. We should stop this guy.”

On the campaign trail this year, Trump has criticized then-Secretary of State Clinton for the 2011 invasion, saying it de-stabilized Libya and made the nation a haven for Islamic State terrorists.

Asked about the contradiction on CBS, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee said he supported a “surgical” operation in Libya.

“But I wasn’t for what happened,” Trump said. “Look at the way … I mean look at … With Benghazi and all of the problems that we’ve had. It was handled horribly.”
